The $12.99 Upgrade That Transforms the Beitong KP40D (Especially for Fighting Games)

If the name doesn't ring a bell, picture the half-moon back buttons on the PS5 DualSense Edge — that's the shape. And I'll be honest: I prefer them to the KP40D's stock paddle-style back buttons. The sculpted shape sits under your fingers more naturally, triggers with less effort, and because they're compact, they stay out of the way when you DON'T want to press them.
The trade-off: they offer fewer adjustment angles than the stock paddles. In practice? I stopped noticing after day one. Better feel beats more adjustment, every time.
The Fighting Game Fix: The Fighting D-Pad
Here's a confession: out of the box, the KP40D is not a great fighting-game controller. The stock D-pad is flat, and flat means vague — diagonals and corner inputs become guesswork when things get fast.
The Fighting D-pad in this pack changes that story. It's a disc-style cap with a raised bump on each of the four cardinal directions, and those bumps do exactly what you'd hope: your thumb can FEEL where it is without looking. Need a diagonal? Wedge your thumb between two bumps and it's just there. And because the outer edges are rounded, quarter-circles and full motion inputs still glide smoothly. Pair it with the domed stick caps (fuller contact under the thumb, easier 360 motions) and the KP40D goes from "not for fighters" to genuinely competitive.
One honest caveat, echoing other players who've tested it: the D-pad still sits a touch tall, so it's not the tightest D-pad on the market. But versus the stock cap, it's night and day.
The Small Touches
The domed stick caps round out the feel upgrades — a fuller, more planted contact patch that makes micro-adjustments more confident. And the foam storage bay deserves a mention nobody expected: it's precision-cut so that, with the controller in the Beitong carrying case, the bay slots perfectly into the remaining space. Everything in one place, nothing rattling around a drawer.
One Honest Note Before You Buy
KP40D owners: your controller already ships with the same diamond D-pad included in this pack — so one of the pieces is technically a duplicate. I'll admit that stung for about a minute. Then I used the other four pieces and forgot about it entirely.
Think of it as buying four upgrades and getting a spare D-pad for free.
