GXXKTRON DP100 Precision Rings Hands-On Review: Small Rings, More Controlled Aim
Good controller aim often comes down to tiny movements. If your aim feels too loose or twitchy, adding resistance around the thumbstick may be worth a try.
That is the simple idea behind the GXXKTRON DP100 Precision Rings. And our first impression is that these foam rings can make fine adjustments feel more controlled once you get past the initial learning curve.
Full disclosure: GXXKTRON is GadgetHyper's own brand, and we sell this at GadgetHyper. This is a hands-on, first-impressions review based on testing with the Flydigi Vader 5 Pro and Sony DualSense for PS5, not a long-term durability report.
The good: Three resistance levels let you experiment, and Medium was our preferred all-round option. After an adjustment period, small aim corrections felt more controlled.
The bad: The added tension can feel awkward at first and may tire your thumb.
Bottom line: DP100 is an easy, low-commitment way to try more deliberate stick movement without changing your controller or aiming settings.

What Are Precision Rings?
A precision ring fits around the base of a thumbstick. Push the stick toward its outer edge and it compresses the foam before reaching the controller shell, adding resistance and making movement feel more deliberate. There is no software or pairing involved, and the rings do not change the game's aim assist.
Each pack contains six rings, with two of each resistance level:
The Gentlest Start
The subtlest option, and an easy place to begin if you prefer lighter stick movement.
Our All-Round Pick
Our preferred middle ground between added resistance and freedom of movement.
The Firmest Feel
Strong resistance for players who know they want it; too restrictive for some preferences.
Not sure where to begin? Start with Soft and work your way up until the resistance feels right.
Installation Is Simple, but Be Gentle
Gently stretch and roll the ring over the thumbstick instead of pulling hard from one edge.
Adjust the ring until the foam sits evenly at the base of the stick.
Start with your aiming stick. Extra resistance on the left movement stick can make running and quick movement feel sluggish in some games.
First Impressions in Games
We tried the rings in Call of Duty, including Warzone, Rainbow Six Siege, Overwatch, Fortnite, and racing games. They were most noticeable during small corrections, although the resistance took some getting used to.
In Call of Duty, aiming initially felt less smooth and moving across the map was a little awkward. After a few matches, medium- to long-range tracking felt more controlled, especially when making small corrections to follow a target.
Rainbow Six Siege brought a subtler change because we already use fairly high sensitivity there. Our aim still felt more consistent, including when holding close-range angles.
In Overwatch and Fortnite, the rings helped us judge how far a stick movement would move the reticle, making quick corrections feel more repeatable. Racing games benefited in a similar way: steering inputs felt more measured and less abruptly sharp.
The added tension also made higher sensitivity easier to experiment with. It does not automatically make a fast setting better, so increase sensitivity gradually rather than making a big jump immediately.
Why We Like Them with TG200 Thumb Grips
The DP100 felt even better with taller grips such as the GXXKTRON TG200 Control Thumb Grip Set. The extra height provides more leverage and moves your thumb farther from the resistance at the base. In our first sessions, that combination felt more comfortable and controlled than rings with low stock sticks.
Compatibility and Fit
The rings are intended for common controllers with thumbsticks, but fit and resistance vary. We tested them on:
Stick-shaft diameter, stick height, and the opening in the controller shell all affect how the foam sits and responds. The same color may therefore feel different on another controller.
Check that the ring sits evenly and does not interfere with normal movement before settling on a setup.
The Downsides
- There is an adjustment period, especially with Medium or Hard rings. Your usual aiming may feel awkward at first.
- Added resistance can tire your thumb on some controllers, particularly with stronger rings and low stock sticks. Try less resistance or a taller grip if that happens.
- Repeated installation and removal can create small cracks around the inner edge. Be gentle and leave the rings in place once you find a setup you like.
- Foam can soften with extended use, changing the resistance and possibly requiring a sensitivity adjustment. Our first-impressions testing cannot establish how quickly that will happen.
A Small Change Worth Trying
For $9.90, the GXXKTRON DP100 Precision Rings are easy to recommend if you want to tame loose or twitchy aim without changing your whole setup. They will not magically improve accuracy, but they can make small stick movements feel more deliberate.
After the initial adjustment, that meant more controlled tracking and more consistent fine corrections in our tests. Medium is a sensible middle ground, Soft is the gentler starting point, and Hard is for players who know they want strong resistance.
