GXXKTRON Control Thumb Grip Set (TG200) Hands-On: Three Textures, One Answer to Slippery Thumbs
Thumb grips are one of those accessories that sound boring until you play without them. One sweaty ranked session, one slipped aim adjustment at the worst possible moment, and suddenly "a $10 piece of rubber" seems a lot more interesting.
When we started our own brand, GXXKTRON, we decided our first product would be a thumb grip set done the way we always wanted one done. This is the Control Thumb Grip Set (TG200): three pairs of high-friction rubber caps, three distinct surface textures, $10.99. And yes — full transparency — this is our own product, so consider this less a "review" and more an honest walkthrough of what it does, who each texture is for, and the trade-offs you should know about before buying.
Control Thumb Grip Set (TG200)

What You Get
The TG200 set is three pairs of caps — one pair each of Control Cradle, Control Dome, and Control Tread — sized at roughly 20mm wide with a 10mm inner diameter and about 7mm of overall height. That low profile is deliberate, and we'll explain why in a moment.
All three are molded from the same tire-grade high-friction rubber, rated for up to 300% more friction than a typical thumb grip cap on the market. In the hand, the best way we can describe the material is a slight "grippy drag" — your thumb plants and stays planted, even mid-flick.
One verified size for full-size sticks.
Snug fit, no shifting mid-flick.
Low profile — stock stick geometry kept.
Up to 300% more than a typical grip cap.
Three Textures, Three Feels
Control Cradle
The whole surface curves inward, letting your thumb nestle into the depression. The center contact area is larger, tracking stays stable, and every time your thumb returns to the stick it lands in exactly the same spot. This is the consistency pick — the shape most players will find immediately comfortable, and the closest to the concave caps first-party controllers ship with.
Control Dome
A traditional convex dome, but with a subtle dip right in the center. Convex caps feel smooth and consistent through large stick movements — your contact patch barely changes as you sweep — but the classic complaint is that with no anchor point, your thumb's position "drifts" between engagements. The slight center dip is our answer to that: just enough of a landmark to re-center on, without losing that unrestricted convex glide.
Control Tread
A raised outer ring with a lower, dot-textured middle. The ring gives your finger something to catch on when pushing directionally — great for players who steer the stick with the pad or knuckle of the thumb rather than the tip, since you can hook the rim and drive the stick in any direction without slipping off.
Why Low-Profile (and How to Choose)
Competitive thumb grips need two things: anti-slip, and clean force transmission. Taller grips make micro-adjustments easier but slow down direction changes — and with taller all-rubber grips, hard inputs can physically deform the stem, adding a tiny bit of mush to every movement. Unless you know you want height, a low-profile, high-friction cap is the more universal answer: you keep the stock stick geometry and add grip, not lag.
Shape-wise, it comes down to how you hold the stick. Fingertip players pressing dead-center can run anything. Thumb-pad and knuckle players — who push from off-center or steer from the rim — tend to prefer a larger concave or rimmed surface they can hook into. That's exactly why the set includes three textures instead of one: nobody on our team agrees on the "best" one, and honestly, that's the point. Try each for a session or two and let your thumb vote.
One Size, Verified on Full-Size Sticks
So far we've tested and confirmed fit on:
More controllers almost certainly fit — we just don't own every model to verify in person, and we'd rather list what we've actually tested than guess. Stick travel, recentering, and L3/R3 clicks all behave normally with the caps on.
Installation takes seconds: flip the cap's edge upward, place it on the stick, pull the edge down, adjust to seat. Once on, they stay on — no shifting mid-flick.
The Honest Trade-Offs
High-friction rubber comes with physics you should know about, and we'd rather say it upfront:
- Like most soft, grippy materials, the caps can pick up dust in some environments. A quick wipe fixes it, and it doesn't affect use.
- They are a wear item. Months of heavy play will gradually smooth the texture — that's normal for this material category, and it's part of why the set ships with three pairs.
- In some cases, heavy sweat over long sessions may cause slight discoloration. This is normal and doesn't affect function or grip.
If you want caps that never wear, hard plastic options exist — but they can't deliver this level of friction. Everything's a trade, and we chose grip.
Let Your Thumb Vote
The TG200 is a simple product with one job: keep your thumb planted. Three textures so you can find your feel, one verified size so there's no compatibility guessing, and a $10.99 price that makes experimenting painless. We're proud of it — and now that you know exactly what it does and doesn't do, your thumb can decide the rest.
